Office for Cultural Foundation and an Investment Firm

Location: Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Client: Confidential

Completion: December 2014

Brief: To design completely new offices for a major cultural Foundation and a closely related investment company.

Starting point: Entire 800sqm floor plan on 23rd floor of an existing high rise was stripped back to its concrete slabs.

The challenge here was to make two different operations to co habit within the same space without noticing the differences. For the structure of the new floor plan, we found inspiration from The Imperial Palace in Beijing’s Forbidden City, with its contained private spaces sitting independently in a number of large interlinked courtyards.

The choice of material and furniture for the interior was Scandinavian classic modern furniture, enhanced by lighting and with Asian references. A sense of a cultured modernity, with restrained but sensual materiality pervades the entire office.
