Fjällnäs Reserve

Location: Fjällnäs, Tänndalen, Sweden

Client: Fjällnäs Fastighets AB

Completion: December 2008

Brief: To design and refurbish the main hotel building to include a reception, shop, lounge, bar and restaurant.

Starting point: An existing two story structure built in 1882 with some fortunate and unfortunate revisions throughout its history.

Fjällnäs is the oldest mountain hotel in Sweden and has served three generations of regular guests. Much care has been given to keep its unique and legendary character while many areas are modified such as main Entrance, reception and bar. The new floor plan is an open space which allows each space to have a warm and strong identity with a good flow in between. For the new walls, ceilings and floorings, reclaimed local pine was used throughout. The new interior includes mainly Swedish furniture and fittings. All custom made joineries like bar and reception counter are made locally in Härjedalen.
