Time & Place Rio 1956-64, Moderna Museet, Stockholm
This was the first in a series of three exhibitions celebrating the Moderna Museet’s 50th Anniversary. The all in all 700 sq.m. exhibition curated by Paolo Venancio Filho, investigated the flourishing creative scene in the visual arts in Rio de Janeiro while also including the design and architecture of the time. The exhibition architecture set the tone of Rio in the late 50s already in the lobby, through the use of colours and shapes echoing the forms landscape architect Burle Marx used for his design of the seafront in Rio, followed by display plinth and ceiling in the first room, inspired by Oscar Niemeyer’s Canoas House in the suburb of Rio.
